As for me, I love reviews, yes they can be scary sometimes, but you have to take the good with the bad. Although, where some reviews can be helpful some are just hurtful. You can review and give some criticism without tearing the whole story apart.
We love what we do and find pride in our work and it hurts when someone just shreds all we've done without remorse. If the story isn't to your liking then...don't read it... I know I've had a few like that, and it almost makes me want to just stop writing, but then I think of all the good reviews I've gotten and see they out weigh the bad, that keeps me going.
I appreciate all the reviews I receive and try my best to answer everyone, and I truly mean it when I say, it mean the world to me, because it does. I don't say it to keep the readers coming back, I say it because the review makes me feel good about myself and what I've accomplished.
I enjoy writing and sharing it with others. When a reader reviews it not only tells me that they're enjoying my work, but it also helps me by telling me what they enjoy reading so the next time I write a story I know what others will enjoy. So I guess what I'm saying is not only do I enjoy writing, but I enjoy that other find my work to their liking.
In reference to what I said before, I try to reply to all reviews and I do, I think it's important to answer them. I think the reader is more apt to come back to read the next update if I do, so I try to get to everyone.
I also love to read others work. I leave a review to let the writer know I appreciate them taking the time to write not only for themselves, but for sharing their talents with us the readers.
I admit that I review more on Tricky Raven than I do on fanfic.net. I usually review at the end of a story on that site unless I read an update that I just have to comment on after finding something amusing or something I agree with or if I'm reading a W.I.P. I guess I do it more often on T.R. because it's more interactive than it is on ff. more personal I guess.
Anyway, I guess what I'm saying more than anything about reviews is...Review, especially if you're enjoying the story, and even criticize if you think it would be helpful to the author or the story, but please don't shred a story, it you don't like it leave it alone.
